Curriculum Standards

Here are some curriculum standards that can be met through the Athletes as Readers and Leaders program.

CSLA Standards and Guidelines for Strong School Libraries.
5.1 - Learns about Children's and Young Adult literature, authors, illustrators.
5.2.3 - Understands the reasons for reading and appreciates the expressive difference among formats.

AASL Standards for the 21st Century Learner:
Share knowledge and participate ethically and productively as members of our democratic society:

3.1.5 - Connect learning to community issues.

1.0 Listening and Speaking Strategies Students formulate adroit judgments about oral communication. They deliver focused and coherent presentations that convey clear and distinct perspectives and demonstrate solid reasoning. They use gestures, tone, and vocabulary tailored to the audience and purpose (11th and 12th grades)

In elementary:

Standard 3: Students assess and maintain a level of physical fitness to improve health and performance.

Fitness Concepts

3.1 Participate in physical activities that are enjoyable and challenging.

Standard 4: Students demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles, and strategies to improve health and performance

4.2 Explain the importance of drinking water during and after physical activity.

4.3 Explain that nutritious food provides energy for alertness and mental concentration

Standard 5: Students demonstrate and utilize knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activity.

5.7 Participate positively in physical activities that rely on cooperation

In high school:
